Apple Crumble

Ingredients

  • 3 large, sweet dessert apples (such as Fuji, Gala, Braeburn, Pink Lady or Jazz)
  • 0.5 Tablespoon Orange Zest
  • 100 Grams frozen mixed berries (optional)
  • 2 chopped kumquat (optional)
  • 0.5 Tablespoon cornflour
  • 0.5 Teaspoon ginger (unit is for ground but can also use fresh)
  • 1 pinch grated nutmeg
  • 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
  • 40 Grams porridge oats (crumble topping)
  • 40 Grams walnuts, chopped
  • 0.5 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
  • 0.5 Tablespoon coconut oil (melted if solid)
  • 0.5 Tablespoon honey (optional)

    Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4 Peel, core and cut the apples into 1.5cm/5/8in dice and place in a bowl with the berries (optional), kumquat (optional), orange zest, cornflour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup. Mix well and spoon into the prepared dish. Press down gently with a spatula to create an even layer.

    To make the crumble topping, mix together the oats, nuts and cinnamon in a small bowl. Make a well in the centre and pour in the maple syrup, honey (optional) and coconut oil. Stir until fully combined. Crumble the topping over the fruit mixture to cover in an even layer

    Bake for 50–60 minutes, until the topping is lightly golden. Leave to cool for 20–30 minutes before serving.
